Description

For the first time in over a decade, Topps will kick off its football trading card season with a flagship release.

2026 Topps Flagship Football marks the company’s first flagship football set since 2015, the last year before Panini gained exclusive manufacturing rights to licensed football cards. In April, Topps reacquired its NFL license but did not release a flagship set for the 2025 season, instead opting for brands like ChromeFinest, and Signature Class among others.

Collectors can expect one autograph or memorabilia card per hobby box, and one autograph and one memorabilia card in every jumbo box.

2026 Topps Flagship Football Checklist Overview

The checklist will include the highly anticipated first rookie cards of top selections from the 2026 NFL Draft, including Fernando Mendoza, Jeremiyah Love, and Ty Simpson.

Base cards share the design of the 2026 Topps Baseball set. The left half of the border resembles jersey fabric with a stitched patch running from top to bottom in a player’s team colors. Collectors will also notice stitching on the left side of the frame that separates the player photo from the card’s primary border.

A full slate of parallels is expected, several of which will be exclusive to certain box types.

Variations

Base Variations are not new to the Topps flagship football set, though the company has drastically increased the amount of varying looks of the base cards since 2015, when Image Variations only covered a handful of players.

The entire 2026 base checklist will have Golden Mirror Variations. These short-printed variants first appeared in 2023 Topps Series 1 Baseball. They are defined by a golden flip side, gold foil Topps logo on the front, and a different image than a player’s base card. The SPs have been very popular with baseball and basketball collectors.

True Photo Variations, which strip away nearly everything except the player photo, are another popular variation from baseball making the jump to the gridiron. The football versions do include a player’s name on the front of the card, unlike their baseball counterparts.

Another concept new to football is Team Color Border Variations. These cards feature a team’s logo down the right border and a little more than half of the top and bottom borders. The remaining border features a complementary team color.

Rookies will also be featured on 1957 Rookie Variations, a tribute to the second Topps Football set that includes rookie cards of Hall of Famers Johnny Unitas and Bart Starr.

Autographs

In 1991, Topps used the same design across its baseball and football release for the first time, so it’s only fitting that the return of Topps Football coincides with the 35th anniversary of that 1991 set. Just like in the 2026 baseball set, collectors will get 1991 Topps Football inserts that put modern players on that retro design.

In addition to the base inserts and parallels, autographed versions will be among the popular chases.

Real One Autographs add a signature to the base design. A full rainbow of parallels is expected.

Flagship First Signatures will be a focus for collectors looking to add the first signatures of the new draft class to their collections. There are also dual versions.

Super Bowl Champions Autographs pay tribute to those players who hoisted a Lombardi Trophy at some point of their career.

Victory Ink features a bold design and hard-signed autographs.

Autographs and memorabilia collide with Patch Autographs.

Memorabilia

Field Fit Swatch Collection relics include cuts taken from alternate jerseys, while NFL Materials include patches in rare parallel versions.

Topps also adds relics to the 1991 retro cards, including prime patches for parallels like the 1/1 Platinum.

Inserts

Billboard Materials include three images of players, making them appear larger than life in a city scene that includes a crowd cheering them on.

Touchdown is an SSP insert with an action comic-inspired design behind players celebrating a score.

Another insert to chase is Struttin’ and popular All Kings cards that have found success in baseball and basketball also make the jump here.

Topps also honors quarterbacks who threw for 4,000 yards and running backs and receivers who gained at least 1,000 yards during the 2025 season. The 2025 postseason is also put into focus with a variety of inserts: Wild Card Moments, Divisional Dominance, Conference Kings, and All Hail The Champs.
